Manson Cheung, Ollie Eaton, Ryu Asada

Background

Manson Cheung — Manson Cheung is a Hot Wheels designer and sculptor; the MC5 wheels bear his name. He created castings in 1/18, 1/43, 1/50 and 1/64 scales and made sculpts for other popular models. Projects associated with him include the Back to the Future DeLorean, the Ghostbusters Ecto-1, the Mystery Machine, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and the Rimac Nevera; in 2025 he worked on a premium Formula 1 collection with eight cars. The sources consulted do not state his education or year of entry.

Ollie Eaton — Not a member of Hot Wheels' design team. Oliver 'Ollie' Eaton is an American who, in 2015, at the age of six, had his wish to design a Hot Wheels car granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The result was the 'Ollie Rocket' (HW City: HW Space Team series, 2015), shaped like a rocket, made in collaboration with designers Ryu Asada and Manson Cheung.

Ryu Asada — Ryu Asada was born in Osaka, Japan, and studied physics at the University of Oregon and then automotive design at the Art Center College of Design in California, with a short internship at a Peugeot studio in France. He joined Mattel in 2004, first at Matchbox (about eight years, more than 200 models) and in 2012 moved to Hot Wheels.

He brought the brand many Japanese and enthusiast cars, such as the Honda S2000, Civic Type R, Integra and NSX, Subaru Impreza, Toyota FJ40, Nissan R390 GT1 and Mazda FC RX-7. He died in March 2021, at the age of 42.
